‘Max Weber’s twin interests in how ideas can ‘become effective forces in history and in capitalism as the ‘most fateful force in modern life’ are a continuing source of inspiration for my own work. Weber’s thinking informs my theoretical interest in ideational explanations; my methodological interest in how we can use novel methods of quantitative text analysis to trace the origins, spread, and use of ideas; and my substantive interest in the rise of digital capitalism and its transformative effects on economies and societies’.
