8th Online discussion: Handbook Presentation, «Wirtschaft und Religion»

Handbook Presentation: Wirtschaft und Religion in Deutschland im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert

Join us on July 14th at 18:00 (CET) for a book project presentation by the editors of the handbook Wirtschaft und Religion in Deutschland im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert [Economics and Religion in Germany in the 19th and 20th Centuries]. Maren Freudenberg, Moritz Hinsch, and Martin Lutz will introduce us to this interdisciplinary volume currently in the making with Aaron French as their mediator. The event will be held in English!

Wirtschaft und Religion is the first handbook in German language on this topic. It covers not only all the relevant theoretical approaches and their historical contexts, but also traces the trajectory of the interplay between religion and economy from Antiquity to Modernity, illuminates religious traditions and their relationship with economics in more recent German history, and throws the spotlight on select topics, such as religious entrepreneurs or the Christian roots of the German welfare state. It highlights the central role of Max Weber’s thinking in the development of the field and at the same time explores ways to go beyond Weber with new approaches.

As per usual, the event will be held online via Zoom and it’s open to all those interested, so feel free to circulate the news with other colleagues. We’ll share the link of the meeting and details a few days in advance, but stay tuned to any updates on the event and network on our Facebook Page
